Paleo Chocolate Date Balls

Sugar is one of the hardest habits to break post Whole30. We feel like we have avoided it for so long, why can't I just have a few bites of this? Which turns into a few bites of that and before you know it your sugar dragon is raging and your food is controlling you again, versus you controlling your own choices! While you should never feel guilty about having lots of sweets and treats, it is always nice to have a better option for yourself so you can save all the goodies for a really special time, like on a holiday or a celebration, which is exactly what food freedom is... saving those special treats for a special time. This is why I give you these Paleo Chocolate Date Balls!

These are something I always have on hand just in case I do get a sweet tooth. They aren't sweet enough to make my sugar dragon rage, but they are sweet enough to get that craving under control, which is exactly what my food freedom is. Picking and choose when I get to feed my sugar dragon!

Why do I give myself permission to enjoy a Paleo treat? Well, that is easy, because life would be boring without treats! We all need to have something every once in a while, sometimes it's wine, sometimes it's chips and queso, sometimes it's a brownie. Now I have experimented enough on myself that I know paleo treats typically allow me to still feel in control and leave me feeling good after I eat them. These are things that I typically stick to one bite of and move on. But that is me! Your food freedom might be different. Maybe you struggle with something different, it is all about setting those boundaries for yourself and knowing when it is worth it and when it is not! Sometimes this is easier said than done and THAT IS OK.

Tips for Paleo Chocolate Date Balls:

  1. Use any spices you like- pumpkin spice is a great addition (I think).
  2. This recipe will make about 10 chocolate date balls, you can always double it for more!
  3. Use any type of nut butter you like.
  4. Sometimes these are a bit oily at first, but it should become less oily when refrigerated. This is made with all ingredients that have some natural oils 🙂
